Mission Statement

The Pharr Police Department Mounted Patrol Unit is dedicated to improving the quality of life by creating a safe environment and partnership with those that live and visit the city of Pharr. We act with the upmost care and respect not only for the community but to our equine, while showing PRIDE to reduce fear in crime while remaining professional, compassionate and fair.

Organization

The Pharr Police Department Mounted Unit was established in 2021. The added height and visibility that the horse gives their rider allows officers to observe a wider area, and it also allows people in the wider area to see the officers, which helps deter crime. Mounted patrols have also proven to be very effective in patrolling large gatherings, such as parades, outdoor events, and demonstrations. Besides the work they do, our mounted unit is an excellent resource for public relations. They are majestic to see and well received by the general public.
